WOW November | TUESDAY, November 19

Guest Speaker

Kellie Markey

Sex Trafficking in Iowa

Kellie Markey spent 15 years building a career in marketing and business development. The last 5 years of her formal career she spent at eBay where she was V.P. Global Direct Marketing and V.P. International.

When she left that industry, she felt compelled to build a second career path in philanthropy and started by volunteering with teen girls in her community.  Realizing the nature and severity of abuse against children left her feeling as if she needed to do more.  She became a licensed foster parent where she gained first hand experience of the challenges children face from trauma.

She had been flipping homes for a living during this time and literally tripped over the home that is now Dorothy's House.  Dorothy's House opened in January 2016 and offers a safe place for the practice of life for girls whose lives have been interrupted by trafficking and exploitation in Iowa.

She received the 2017 Alumni Award in recognition of exceptional professional accomplishments and contributions of service to others and is a Distinguished Alumna of Dowling Catholic High School.

She received the 2018 Impact Maker Award from the United Way of Central Iowa and was a 2018 Person to Watch in the Des Moines Register.

She also received the Outstanding Anti-Trafficking Service Award from the Iowa Network Against Human Trafficking.

~~~
We hope you will join us to learn about the nature of this crime and the challenging road survivors face in recovery.  Dorothy's House provides a safe place for the practice of life for those girls whose lives have been interrupted by this crime.
